Choose the shop around your plans
Start with your activity, then check what you need to rent and where you will use it. Staying in Banff and collecting a bike in Canmore creates a different day from picking up winter equipment near your accommodation.
The shops below are starting points for planning, with links to their own rental information. Reserve directly with the shop and check the available equipment for your dates.
Snowtips Bactrax
A central Banff option for bike and seasonal outdoor-equipment rentals. Its published rental range includes ski and snowboard equipment, snowshoes and bikes.
- Getting there without a car
- Plan the journey from your accommodation to Bear Street. Shop collection is separate from your airport drop-off; check how you will carry the equipment to your activity.
- Before you book
- Confirm the specific item, fit, reservation requirements, collection and return hours, and any deposit or damage terms. Seasonal stock and opening hours can change.
Rebound Cycle
A Canmore option for researching bike rentals and premium bike demos. The rental page links to reservations and local trail information.
- Getting there without a car
- The shop is on Main Street in Canmore. Plan the local connection from your accommodation or shuttle stop; do not assume your airport transfer includes a shop visit.
- Before you book
- Ask about bike type, size, helmets, locks, permitted riding areas, weather suitability and the return deadline. Check the rental calendar for your season.
Check what your activity already includes
A guided outing may include the equipment you need. Ask the guide first so you do not pay for a separate rental unnecessarily. Our guided hiking and snowshoeing guide explains the questions to ask about included gear and transfers.
If renting for an independent day, tell the shop where you plan to go and your experience level. Ask which equipment suits that use and what restrictions apply. Rental availability alone does not tell you whether a route or activity is suitable on the day.
Plan collection and return before paying
- Match the shop to your base. Check the actual address and the journey there with bags or equipment.
- Allow time for fitting. Confirm sizing, identification, deposits and any paperwork with the shop.
- Check the rental period. Ask whether an overnight rental, late return or cancellation changes the total.
- Work backwards from your next journey. Leave time to return the gear, collect your luggage and reach your airport pickup.
If you are bringing your own equipment instead, check our shuttle luggage guidance and available extras before booking. A shop reservation does not reserve an equipment space on the shuttle.
A useful question for the rental shop
“We’re staying at [location] without a car and would like to rent [equipment] on [date]. What is included, how much time should we allow for collection, and when must everything be returned?”
